True West

By Sam Shepard

Directed by David Saperstein

The third of Sam Shepard's "family" plays, True West is uncharacteristically traditional in its structure, but typically over the top in its story and style. The story tells of two brothers: Austin, a Hollywood screenwriter, and Lee, a small-time criminal. The play's encounter between the brothers explores the duality of human personality, and our primal capacity for violence. Is Austin frightened of Lee or does he admire his brother's willingness to break the rules?
