SEUSSICAL is a contemporary re-imagining of Dr. Seuss, which weaves together many of his most famous stories and characters in unexpected ways. The Tony Award-winning team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime & Once on This Island) has created a score that includes pop, gospel, blues and R & B. SEUSSICAL creates the witty, wild and whimsical world of Dr. Seuss, as it has never been seen before. When chaos erupts in the Jungle of Nool, it will take the Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, and a gaggle of characters to bring harmony back to their world. SEUSSICAL incorporates elements from at least 15 of his books and includes many beloved characters. Main characters in the musical include: THE CAT IN THE HAT (physically adept male or female comfortable with comedy), JO JO (9-12 year old boy), HORTON THE ELEPHANT (a gentle giant who believes in goodness), GERTRUDE McFUZZ (self-conscious bird who turns into a confident caretaker), MAYZIE LA BIRD (self-centered, selfish and vain bird), SOUR KANGAROO (she's loud brassy and a lot of fun), GENERAL GENGUS KHAN SCHMITZ (proud general who runs the military academy), THE WICKERSHAM BROTHERS (play pranks and make mischief as well as music)!, THE WHOS (so small there invisible but not in our world, The WHOS are played by actors of all ages)!, MR. AND MRS. MAYOR (JO JO's parents), JUNGLE CREATURES (imaginative and wild actors who will play animals with human personas).
