WHO ARE YOU, FRITZ HABER?

By Claude Cohen

Directed by Tom Welcenbach

English language premiere of Claude Cohen's award-winning French play, translated from the French for KACM by Sandy Levine, our recognition of the centenary of World War One. Part of the 2nd Milwaukee Fringe Festival.

May 1, 1915. Fritz Haber, already recognized as one of the greatest scientists in the world, the man who will win the 1918 Nobel Prize for Chemistry for literally pulling food out of thin air with the Haber-Bosch process, has finished hosting a dinner with officers of the German General Staff. They have been celebrating his unique contribution to the Great War, for on April 22nd Fritz directed the release of chlorine gas into the Allied trenches near the Belgian town of Ypres.

Fritz Haber, on his own initiative has brought chemical warfare to the Western Front. Fritz Haber, on his own initiative has brought chemical warfare to the 20th century.

Clara Immerwahr is Fritz's wife and the first German woman to receive a Doctorate of Chemistry. A pacifist who insists the purpose of science is to serve man, she has been a gracious hostess but with the guests gone, she grimly, relentlessly confronts her famous husband with the horror of what he has done. The explosive argument that follows shatters the Haber family - and the world.

With Ken Morgan as Fritz Haber; Rebecca Janny as Clara Immerwahr. Running time, 80 minutes. Tickets for this and other individual shows available at the Marcus Center Box Office; call 888-612-3500. Day passes for the festival available via Ticketmaster at English language premiere of Claude Cohen's award-winning French play, translated from the French for KACM by Sandy Levine, our recognition of the centenary of World War One.
