The Prince & the Pauper
By Mark Twain
Directed by Renaye Leach
Mark Twain's tale of mayhem and mischief erupts when a poor boy and a prince exchange places and step into the shoes of one another. PlayTime Productions magically transposes the classic tale of The Prince & the Pauper at 16 Dane County venues this fall (see schedule below) at a very low cost for the entire family.
The noted Dane County children’s traveling theatre brings The Prince & the Pauper, a story based on the life of Edward VI, the last Tudor King of England, to life. Come see what unfolds in PlayTime’s adaptation of the story for the children’s stage accompanied by an original musical score.
The play retells Mark Twain’s The Prince and the Pauper, an 1881 book about a young beggar who switches places with a prince. The story is based on the life of a real person, the last Tudor King from England, Edward VI. The production will be developed to reflect the time period when Edward lived, 1537-1553. As the story unfolds, the prince and pauper encounter a group of ruffian beggars, an entourage of court attendants, and a mysterious hermit. The tale encourages an empathetic stance as the boys literally walk a mile in each other’s shoes, fostering understanding, care, and concern for others, still needed in our modern times.
