The Lion In Winter
By James Goldman
Directed by The Company
Fresh off the success of their run of "Hamlet", Q&D is back on the Madison theatre scene with a brand-new production of James Goldman's "family" classic "The Lion In Winter, a play about a family and Christmas-time. Except, this is no ordinary family. This is the royal family of England, ruled by Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine (who has just been temporarily released from jail after being imprisoned there for the past ten years - by her husband). Their oldest son, the warlike Richard the Lionhearted, their middle son, the scheming, unemotional Geoffrey, and their youngest son John, who would go on to be the worst king in English history, are all in attendance as well, and all want the throne, and each other dead. Add to the mix the king of France, and his sister (Henry's 23 year-old mistress), whom everyone needs to marry if they want to succeed the current king, and we've got our selves a ballgame.
And I'm guessing there are some things on everyone's mind.
We hope you'll join the Quick and Dead for a night of intrigue, suspense, and good old-fashioned family brawling...1183 A.D. style.
