The Hallelujah Girls
By Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten
Directed by Jennie Ortega
The Hallelujah Girls tells the story of a group of five spirited ladies who meet regularly at the Spa-Dee-Dah, a day spa in a former church located in Eden Falls, GA. The death of a mutual friend makes all of the ladies realize that their time is running out and if they ever expect to change their lives, the time to do it is now.
The ladies include Sugar Lee, the owner of the spa and a high spirited go-getter; Carlene, who has given up on romance; Nita, who is a nervous wreck running interference between her problematic son and his probation officer; Mavis, who’s marriage is stuck in a rut; and sweet and simple Crystal, who entertains the rest by singing Christmas carols with her own hilarious lyrics. Into this mix comes a sexy ex-boyfriend of one of the ladies, an unexpected marriage proposal from an unlikely suitor for one of the ladies and Sugar Lee’s arch rival who is determined to steal the spa away from her. All of this makes for a side-splitting laugh riot!
