The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
By Music and Lyrics by William Finn, Book by Rachel Sheinkin
Directed by Catherine Pfeiler
Lake Country Playhouse is excited to present a bonus summer show, the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee! This 2005 Tony-winning musical follows the hilarious happenings as a stage full of precocious youngsters compete for the title of Putnam County’s top speller (along with the opportunity to advance to the National Bee), while a staff of varyingly-qualified adults attempt to keep the contest under some semblance of normalcy.
Contestants include returning champ Chip Tolentino, the brash William Barfee (“pronounced bar-FAY, if you will”), politically-aware Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre, hyper-competitive transfer student Marcy Park, free-spirited Leaf Coneybear, earnest Olive Ostrovsky, along with a handful of other hopefuls.
Contest administrators include Moderator Rona Lisa Peretti (the #1 Realtor in Putnam County and a former Putnam County Spelling Bee champion), Judge (and Vice-Principal) Douglas Panch, and Comfort Counselor Mitch Mahoney (an ex-convict performing community service at the Bee).
Performers include alumni of the Award-winning Arrowhead High School Broadway Company, under the direction of Catherine Pfeiler. This promises to be a remarkably entertaining show – we look forward to seeing you here!
