Something's Afoot
By James McDonald, David Voss, Robert Gerlach, Ed Lindermann
Directed by Janet Palmer
SOMETHING’S AFOOT is a zany, entertaining musical that takes a satirical poke at Agatha Christie mysteries and the musical styles of the English music hall of the 1930s. Ten people are stranded in an isolated English country house during a raging thunderstorm. The unseen Lord Dudley Rancour, has invited six ill-assorted characters for a ''marvelous weekend in the country air.'' He invites his dissipated nephew, a family doctor, an elderly army colonel, a pseudo-society lady, an ingénue type and, of course, an amateur detective modeled after the indomitable Miss Marple. A university student intruder, a ditsy maid, an eerie caretaker and a butler round off the diminishing cast. One by one cleverly fiendish devices pick them off. As the bodies pile up in the library, the survivors frantically race to uncover the identity and motivation of the cunning culprit.
