Next to Normal

By Brian Yorkey & Tom Kitt

Directed by Tim Backes

Dad's an architect; Mom rushes to pack lunches and pour cereal; their daughter and son are bright, wise-cracking teens, appearing to be a typical American family. And yet their lives are anything but normal because the mother has been battling manic depression for 16 years. Next to Normal takes audiences into the minds and hearts of each character, presenting their family's story with love, sympathy and heart.

Auditions

Auditions will be held on the following days:

6/29/2017
6/30/2017

All In Productions is pleased to announce auditions for its next show, NEXT TO NORMAL, running at Next Act Theatre from September 7 to 16. The show is being directed by Tim Backes and music directed by Julie Johnson.

Auditions will take place at the Underground Collaborative in the Grand Avenue Mall from 6 to 9:30 PM on Thursday, June 29 and from 6 to 7:20 PM on Friday, June 30. Callbacks will be held Friday, June 30 beginning at 7:30. We encourage auditionees to only schedule a Friday appointment if they are unable to make the Thursday time to reserve that timeslot for those who need it.

For initial auditions, please prepare a one-minute cut of a song in the style of the show, and bring a headshot and resume. An accompanist will be provided. Callback materials are available at www.allin-mke.com/upcoming/auditions for study ahead of time.

To schedule an audition time, email allin.mke@gmail.com. Video auditions are also able to be submitted via email, and are due by 6 PM on Thursday, June 29. Actors younger than 18 are welcome to audition for the teen roles, but will require parental permission in the form of a signed waiver to participate in this show if cast, as it features mature content.

We are casting all six roles:

DIANA GOODMAN, Female, late 30s/early 40s — Delusional, bipolar, and depressed. The sexiness of her yesterdays has only recently begun to soften. She is determined to make her family perfect but is tortured by a death in the family.

DAN GOODMAN, Male, late 30s/early 40s — Diana’s husband. He is handsome and genuine. Though a constant in Diana's tumultuous life, he has grown tired and weary of her antics.

NATALIE GOODMAN, Female, 16 — Diana & Dan's troubled daughter. An accomplished pianist and hardworking student, her struggles are exacerbated by her mother's behavior. She greatly admires Henry.

GABE GOODMAN, Male, 18 to 21 — Diana & Dan's son. Dashing, athletic, and bright. He is a playful man and everything a mother could imagine.

HENRY, Male, 17 — Natalie’s classmate. The all-around musician, philosopher, and slacker. He has an intoxicating capacity for sympathy and romance.

DR. MADDEN, MALE, 30s — Diana’s handsome psychiatrist. Quite assured in his practice and considered somewhat of a rock star. Doubles as Dr. Fine, Diana’s psychopharmacologist.

Rehearsals will begin in late July. Auditionees will be notified via email of callback, and casting calls will be made over the weekend after callbacks are complete.
