Auditioning for the Following:Murdered to Death
Note: Ages are for guidance only and can be varied, provided that the overall balance is maintained.Come prepared to read from the script.Mildred – moderately wealthy widow who carried on an affair with Col. Craddock for thirty years. Now in her late fifties, she still wants him to leave his wife. She threatens to divulge the affair to her, but is killed before she can do so.
Dorothy – Mildred’s companion and housekeeper in her late twenties. Somewhat cool, cunning and intelligent, she is very straight-forward. Though seemingly nice enough, she is not above blackmail.
Bunting – Mildred’s creepy, sallow butler who lurks in dark corners. In his sixties, he is an imposter who had an affair with Margaret Craddock and served years earlier with Col. Craddock until one night he ran off with the mess silver.
Col. Charles Craddock – A bumbling army man in his early sixties who tells extravagant but untrue stories of his exploits. He has carried on a thirty-year affair with Mildred but is unwilling to leave his wife even though he doesn’t love her.
Margaret Craddock: Somewhat younger than her husband, whom she doesn’t love, she is a rather sour, complaining and domineering woman. A true villain underneath her staid demeanor, she is the real criminal of the piece.
Pierre Marceau: A phony French art dealer and actual art forger in his early thirties. A cunning criminal, he is not above lying, blackmail and even murder.
Elizabeth Hartley-Trumpington: In her mid-twenties, she is extremely attractive, sexy and always stunningly dressed. Actually a Cockney slut, she is Pierre’s partner in crime and also not above murder.
Joan Maple: A nosy, interfering, busy-body neighbor who means well but is a community celebrity because wherever she goes a murder occurs. In her sixties, she in fact eventually solves two murders.
Thomkins: A typical young village policeman who is obviously much more capable than his superior.
Inspector Pratt : Of indeterminate middle age, he is an inept, posing, clumsy, ineffectual disaster area incapable of solving a crime.
