Measure for Measure

By William Shakespeare

Directed by Jim Butchart

Just imagine what would happen if out of nowhere, the acting government enacted a long forgotten law against the freedom to pursue sexual relations outside of marriage. Not only that, but the penalty for breaking this law was to be put to death. Such is the case in Vienna where the acting Duke has just made it very difficult for people to misbehave, and put one honest man in particular in a very uncomfortable position. However, justice is not blind in this story when the Duke, who bears the reputation of a saint, is caught breaking this newly enacted law himself. Truly one of Shakespeare's darkest comedies, Measure for Measure journeys into the depths of the human condition using lies, deception, and sexual delusion to once again explore man's moral fibers.
