WITTY FARCE: Mr. John Worthing leads a double life. In the country, he is the stern guardian of his young ward, Cecily. In London, he becomes Mr. Ernest Worthing, a pseudonym that allows him to enjoy city life. He becomes engaged to Gwendoly, a young lady of London society. Meanwhile, his best friend Algernon uses John's pseudonym and becomes engaged to Cecily. The women meet and discover that they are both engaged to Mr. Ernest Worthing.
