The Elixir of Love

By Gaetano Donizetti

Directed by Diane Garton Edie and Jeffrey Sykes

Come experience Donizetti's comic masterpiece set in the Old West. Miss Addy (Adina) is a wealthy rancher greatly admired by Jimmy Reno (Nemorino), a lovesick cowpoke. Swaggering cavalry sergeant Bill Corey (Belcore), competes for her affections. Rounding out the ensemble is a peddler of cure-alls, Dr. Dulcamara, and the Townsfolk of Lonesome Gulch portrayed for this performance by students from Orchard Ridge Elementary in Madison. Things get complicated when Dulcamara sells Jimmy a delicious elixir of love (root beer). Jimmy soon discovers that the elixir causes him far more problems than it solves. By the end, Jimmy, Addy, and the audience realize that the human heart, in its pursuit and expression of love, needs no magic potion. Audiences of all ages enjoy OFY's 45 minute performances!
