Dance Here, Dance Now

Directed by Lisa Andrea Thurrell

Budding choreographers, members of the Kanopy Dance Company, will premiere their works in the Dance Here, Dance Now concert.  Among these professionally trained dancers are area artists Anca Cristina Botez, Erika Akiko Howard, Brianne Schenkel and Julie Wetlaufer. Botez will present a new work featuring text as well as music and performers with experience with the Madison Scouts. Experimentation with movement comes first and meaning second for Schenkel, whose work reveals a mirroring, a connection between the two. Reflecting her response to war and refugees, Howard's piece resonates with a lyrical quality through its sensitive choreography. Wetlaufer's dance is set to popular Greek  music and that of British singer-actor Sting (Gordon Sumner). Artistic Director, Lisa A. Thurrell's premiere Triptych is to Facades and Closing by Phillip Glass. Associate Director Robert E. Cleary will present his enthusiastically received  work, Primavera Portenia (recently premiered at the Mitby Dance Festival) to music composed by Astor Piazolla.
