Playback Wisconsin

Playback Wisconsin is an improvisational storytelling theatre form that transforms the audience's real life stories into a performance. Playback Wisconsin is one of several Playback companies worldwide, affiliated with the International Playback Theatre Association. The group performs for schools, libraries, and other organizations throughout Wisconsin. In this type of theatre the audience members tell stories from their lives and then watch as their stories unfold on the stage through music, movement, and theatrical improvisation.

Playback Wisconsin, Wisconsin’s first Playback Company, was founded in 2001 by Sara Cutler and Allison Salmon.

About Playback Theatre

In Playback Theatre the audience members tell stories from their lives and then watch as their stories are brought to life by the actors through drama and music. Playback Theatre was founded in 1975 in New York by Jonathan Fox. Since then, Playback Theatre has been performed in hundreds of settings in 17 countries on several continents. Human beings have a natural tendency to create community by telling and remembering, Playback creates an accepting and comfortable forum where participants can share their stories. This form of theatre becomes a powerful way to recognize and honor both the differences and the commonality among people. At the same time, it helps to build a strong and supportive community through shared experience and understanding. If you have questions about Playback Theatre, please go to www.playbacknet.org.
