Working

By Studs Terkel, Stephen Schwartz & James Taylor

Directed by Director: Amy Shaw, Musical Director: Mary Hall

The hopes, dreams, joys and concerns of the average working American are the focus of this unique, extraordinary musical. That the everyday lives of “common” men and women should be so compelling and moving will surprise and inspire anyone who has ever punched a time clock.

Based on Studs Terkel’s best-selling book of interviews with American workers, “Working” paints a vivid portrait of the men and women the world so often takes for granted: the schoolteacher, the parking lot attendant, the waitress, the millworker, the mason, the trucker, the fireman, the housewife, just to name a few. It’s a highly original look at the American landscape that’s simply impossible to forget.

"Immensely moving... terrfically original in concept... it's a glorious show that rethreads the fabric of American life and leaves you cheering."
- Daily News

"... more substance than the average musical... one of the best shows in town."
- Los Angeles Times

Auditions

Auditions will be held on the following days:

8/20/2007
8/21/2007

The community is encouraged to audition or work back stage. A love of theatre is the only requirement. Isadoora is holding auditions Monday, August 20 and Tuesday, August 21 for “Picasso at the Lapin Agile” and “Working.” Auditions on August 20 will be at Bjorklunden, Baileys Harbor. Auditions on August 21 are at Hope Church, Sturgeon Bay. Callbacks for “Picasso...” will be August 22 at the Sturgeon Bay Library, if needed. All begin at 7:00 pm.

For “Working,” participants should be prepared to sing 32 bars of a prepared piece of folk, jazz or a contemporary song from the musical style of 70’s. The show calls for five singing/acting women and five singing/acting men ages 18-60 plus. The director is also looking for five ensemble players who will act and or sing in group numbers or monologues. Actors/singers who also play an instrument are encouraged to audition.
