Vampire Lesbians of Sodom & Durang One-Acts

By Charles Busch & Christopher Durang

Directed by Ray Bradford

The satirical farce "Vampire Lesbians of Sodom" is right out of the Rocky Horror show genre. One of the longest running plays in Off-Broadway history; it tells the saga of two fatally seductive vampiresses whose paths first collide in ancient Sodom. Their bitter rivalry as bloodsuckers but more importantly, as actresses, endures for 2,000 years with stops in 1920’s silent movie Hollywood and modern day Las Vegas.

"Desire, Desire, Desire" is a zany parody of A Streetcar Named Desire. Blanche Dubois, her nerves shot, is stuck in a house with a slobby Stanley Kowalski, who keeps yelling “Stella!”. Stella left for a lemon coke 6 years ago and never returned. Blanche tries to seduce a young census taker, but is interrupted by Big Daddy and Maggie from Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. A “tart” from Icemen Cometh shows up as well, irritating Blanche by saying “pipedream” instead of “illusion”. Stella comes back briefly, but departs again, leaving Blanche and Stanley stuck together for eternity.

"Naomi in the Living Room": Naomi, a total crackpot, when visited by John and Johnna, her son and daughter in law, is alternately friendly and insulting. Johnna copes as best she can, but when john changes his clothes to look like johnna, things start to unravel. Naomi barely notices any differences, but throws them both out of the house, then decides she’s had a nice time!

Synopses of all plays are below:

Psycho Beach Party: “Gidget”, Frankie and Annette beach party epics and Hitchcock psychological suspense thrillers such as “Spellbound” and “Marnie” are given a shotgun marriage. Chicklet Forest, a teenage tomboy, desperately wants to be part of the surf crowd on Malibu Beach in 1962. One thing getting in her way is her unfortunate tendency towards split personalities. Among them is a black check out girl, an elderly radio talk show hostess, a male model named Steve and the accounting firm of Edelman and Edelman. Her most dangerous alter ego is a sexually veracious vixen named Ann Bowman who has nothing less than world domination on her mind.

Also, stay tuned for an upcoming audition this summer for our 2014/2015 season opener The Adam’s Family Musical, which will open in September, 2014.

We hope to see you at the auditions!!!
