The Language Archive

By Julia Cho

Directed by Adam Fogelson

The Language Archive centers around a master linguist who specializes in recording and cataloging dying languages, but can’t find the words to keep his marriage from falling apart. His lonely assistant is so desperately in love with him she tries to learn Esperanto in order to tell him. Meanwhile, a language faces extinction as the last two speakers of an indigenous tongue refuse to speak to one another. Will their language perish forever out of spite? Language and love are the intertwined themes of this lyric and offbeat excursion into the difficulty of finding words for what lies in our hearts.
