The Giver

By Adapted by Eric Coble, Based on the Newbery Award-winning book by Lois Lowry

Directed by David Lawver

Jonas's world is perfect. Everything is under control and safe. There is no war or fear or pain. There are also no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the community. But when Jonas turns 12, he is chosen for special training from The Giver to receive and keep the memories of the community. The Giver is the only person who holds the memories of real pain and real joy. Now Jonas will learn the truth about life and the hypocrisy of his utopian world. Through this astonishing and moving adaption, discover what it means to grow up, to grow wise, and to take control of your own destiny.

Auditions

Auditions will be held on the following days:

1/25/2015
1/26/2015

We will hold auditions in the Prairie View Elementary School Little Theater on Sunday, January 25, at 2 pm and Monday, January 26, at 6:30 pm. Auditioners need to attend only one of the two open calls. Callbacks, if needed, will be on Thursday evening, January 29. Auditioners will read from the script, and may be asked to improvise.

Principal roles are available for two men, two women, two boys and one girl who appear to be 11-12 years old, and one girl who appears to be 8-9 years old. The script also requires four to eight additional boys and girls who appear to be 8-14 years old who will have a much lighter rehearsal schedule.

Auditioners can learn about the story by reading the Lois Lowry novel. It is available in both paperback and Kindle editions from amazon.com. The Dane County Library Service also has many copies, but you should reserve one as they are very popular.

We encourage parents to discuss the story with young auditioners. Parents are encouraged to attend auditions and are welcome at all rehearsals.

Updates and full information will be available at www.oshponline.org/giver/internal.html.
