Second Fusion and Transposed Heads ? a novel by Thomas Mann

Directed by Meenakshi Ganesan, Lisa Thurrell & Robert Cleary

The evening opens with Artistic Directors Meenakshi Ganesan and Lisa Thurrell performing a salutation dance choreographed by Artistic Directors Robert Cleary and Meenakshi Ganesen. The Kalaanjali and Kanopy dancers then perform Second Fusion ? whereby the dancers take the fusion to the next level portraying unity in art no matter East or West.

The second half both Companies present ?Transposed Heads? - a novel by Thomas Mann and directed by Dr.B.S.Sridhar. Transposed Heads, a story telling ballet, in Baratnatyam and modern dance that portrays the blend of the two dance forms interwoven with the story. The evening concludes with a closing prayer dance for World Peace performed by both Kanopy dance and Kalaanjali dancers.

Guest performers include Dr.B.S. Sridhar and other artists from UW Oshkosh, and performance artist Kiro kopulos.

The Kalaanjali school of Indian Dance is directed by Meenakshi Ganesan in an effort to propagate Bharatanatyam ? Indian Classical Dance form through various outreach programs, workshops, seminars, fund raisers etc. The Kalaanjali dancers as young as 5 years to adults have performed in various multi-cultural and collaborative performances in Wisconsin and other cities of the US, including various pre-schools, elementary, middle and high schools and Universities of WI. Meenakshi and the dancers have been appreciated by the press and public for their quality and presentation. Kanopy Dance Company has received praise for their presentations of compelling choreography performed with dramatic physicality and elegance. Comprised of professional dancers and choreographers, Kanopy has developed an extensive repertoire, adding new creations with each concert season. Artistic Director, Lisa Andrea Thurrell, formerly with the Martha Graham Company, holds an MFA in Dance & Choreography from the UW and the Certificate from the Martha Graham Professional Teaching and Trainee Program. Associate Director of Kanopy, Robert E. Cleary, danced with Bill T Jones, Bebe Miller, Minnesota Dance Theatre, and Ballet Minnesota and holds degrees in dance and History. Kanopy encourages local, national and international creative artists (choreographers, composers, and other theatre artists) by bringing their work before wide audiences. The company has resided for nearly 31 years in downtown Madison. Kanopy School offers training for all ages in modern dance, choreography, repertory, ballet, jazz, including intensive summer training programs. Kanopy Dance is a resident of the Overture Center for the Arts, performs a full season there, and presents outreach performances and workshops throughout the midwest.
