Mr. George Banks: Early 40’s. A senior bank clerk by name, nature and occupation. A pipe-and-slippers man who doesn’t have much to do with his children. Likes things precise and efficient. Baritone.

Mrs. Winifred Banks: 30’s. Very busy trying to live up to her husband’s desire. Loving but distracted mother. Overwhelmed by the conflict between her desire to please her husband and children and the contradictory suspicion that she’s both not up to the job. Mezzo soprano.

Jane Banks: 11. Pretty and attractive girl. Exuberant but willful. Occasionally inclined to snobbishness. Maximum height: 58”.

Michael Banks: 9. Cute and cheeky. Excitable. Naughty. Adores his father, and tries to be like him. Maximum height: 56”.

Mrs. Brill: 50’s. The housekeeper. Always complaining. Most of the time her intimidating exterior barely masks the warmth underneath. Big, bosomy and harassed. Barks rather than speaks. Alto.

Miss Andrew: 40’s -60’s. George’s old nanny. Overbearing lady with a huge trumpeting voice. Beak-nosed, grim-mouthed; small, peering bespectacled eyes. A bully who only knows one way of doing things – her way. Soprano with alto belt. (doubles as Miss Cory)

Miss Cory: 40’s-60’s. Exotic owner of the talking shop. Full of energy and bigger than life. Sings supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Basic tap is needed. (doubles as Miss Andrew)

Robertson Ay: Early 20’s/30‘s. Servant to the Banks family. Comedic, clumsy and grumbling. Never gets things right, so believes himself to be useless. Tenor.

The Birdwoman: 50’s. covered in a patchwork of old shawls, homeless. Sings “Feed the Birds”.

Admiral Boom/Chairman: One actor plays both. Boom: 50’s. Retired. Physically large man who has a loud and booming voice. Speaks in navy jargon. Baritone. Chairman: An Edwardian stuffed-shirt. Head of the bank.

Ensemble: all ages of dancer/singers that can play and understudy various roles. Must be a strong tap and jazz dancer with a strong voice.
