Little Shop of Horrors

Directed by Tim Riley

This well-known musical adaptation of a horrible B-movie features great music and fun acting challenges. Even though the premise is silly (feeding blood to plants, alien life, sadistic dentistry, 50's doo-wop all in the same space), the outlandish characters think of themselves as normal with the American Dream in their hearts.

Produced by Stoughton Village Players at Stoughton Village Players Theater, 255 E Main St, Stoughton

Performances: November 10-19, 2016

Auditions

Auditions will be held on the following days:

8/21/2016
8/22/2016
8/23/2016

Stoughton Village Players announces auditions for Little Shop of Horrors, to be directed by Timothy S. Riley. Auditions will be at 7:00 PM on August 21st, 22nd and 23rd at the Stoughton Village Players Theater (255 East Main Street).

Auditioners should be prepared to sing a Broadway selection that best exhibits their talents and their ability to perform the role for which they are auditioning. A pianist will be provided or a capella is okay as well. Songs from the show are allowed, but not required. Those auditioning will then be asked to do some cold readings from the script. Rehearsals will generally be Monday through Thursday from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Performance dates are November 10-13 and 17-19. We greatly encourage and welcome anyone who is interested in auditioning for this production

If you have further questions or are very interested in auditioning but can't make these two dates, please call director Tim Riley at 608-279-4515.

Stoughton Village Players encourages actors from all over the area to audition regardless of whether they have performed with the group or not. We do own our historic theater on Main Street in Stoughton so all rehearsals are done on the same stage on which we perform.

The musical will feature a cast of 12-13 singer/actors with 8 featured roles:

“Girl Group” (3) – The Girl Group members are major characters in the show who serve as a “Greek” chorus of sorts. Need to blend and harmonize well. Age range 20s - 30s (or capable of playing that age range).

Audrey – Female lead. Sweet, naïve, with a strong voice. Love interest for Seymour. Erstwhile girlfriend of the dentist. Age range 20s - 30s (or capable of playing that age range).

Seymour – Nebbish “loser” whose life is transformed by Audrey II and his love for Audrey. Age range 20s - 30s (or capable of playing that age range).

Mushnik – Stressed, put upon owner of a failing flower shop on Skid Row. “Father figure” to Seymour. Age range 40s - 50s (or capable of playing that age range).

Dentist – A terribly narcissistic, misogynistic, comic character. Audrey’s abusive boyfriend, with two great songs, who meets a fitting end. Age range mid-20s - 30s (or capable of playing that age range).

Audrey II – This character plays the voice of the plant, and does not appear on stage. This is, however, a major role in the show, requiring comic acting skills and a strong baritone to bass voice. An excellent role, in spite of playing the role from off-stage. Age range – doesn’t really matter. It’s the voice and the acting that counts.

Ensemble (3-4) – The denizens of Skid Row -- derelicts, quirky characters, some small featured bits. Age range – “you name it.”
