Laughter on the 23rd Floor

By Neil Simon

Directed by Ron Wilkie

Laugh along with the stars and writers of this 1950s TV variety show based on Neil Simon’s own early career as a junior writer. Local director, Ron Wilkie, brings us this ensemble comedy filled with the antics of the stressed-out staff writers working to one-up each other. Watch as star comic, Max Prince, battles the naysaying executives over his sophisticated humor. Or so he says. You’ll be laughing out loud at this 1993 Broadway show.

Auditions

Auditions will be held on the following days:

8/14/2023
8/15/2023
8/16/2023

Actors aged 18+ are invited to audition for our fall show, Laughter on the 23rd Floor. We are looking for seven men and two women to portray the real comedy writers and actors from the 1950s TV writers’ room. Please research the show’s characters and choose one to focus your audition toward. You’ll be asked to read from the script and to tell us something about that character’s real-life role and persona that you find interesting or comical. (Please find information online or contact director, Ron Wilkie, for character info.) We are looking forward to building a well-educated cast that reflects the energy and family-feel that the real life Writers’ Room would have portrayed.

Auditions will be held Monday – Wednesday, August 14-16, from 6-9pm each night, at BDACT Fine Arts Center-Encore Hall, 117 W. Maple Avenue. No signup is required. Scripts are currently available for perusal at the Beaver Dam Community Library.

Cast: Approximate ages -18 through 40s, seven males, two females. For details and audition form, see bdact.org/laughter-on-the-23rd-floor
