Harvest

Harvest is a play by Manjula Padmanabhan concerned with organ-selling in India set in the near future.It is a critique of the commoditization of the third world body.The play confronts us with a futuristic Bombay of the year 2010.
Harvest won the 1997 Onassis Prize as the best new international play.

Auditions will be held for a dramatic reading of the play for the annual South Asia conference at which the playwright herself will be present.

Final performance: Evening of Oct 18, 2014 at the South Asia Conference in downtown Madison (details to follow).

Character auditions for:

2 older women of color (age 60-ish)
1 older white male (age 40-70)
2 men of color (ages 18-30)
1 woman of color who can play romantically opposite these men
1 white woman (18-30)
A group of people for small parts (guards and agents)

Note: The characters need not necessarily be of South Asian descent, but must represent individuals of color where specified. The play deals with the exploitation of individuals in countries of the Global South by politico-economic systems in the Global North.
