Hangin' Will Caffee
By Paula Dail
Directed by Jewell Fitzgerald
Hangin’ Will Caffee is a colorful and entertaining play about how justice was carried out in the early days of the Wisconsin frontier - with a little suffrage and "gallows politics" thrown in.
The story of how Will Caffee got himself a date with a hangman is based entirely on actual events - sort of - and features the legal antics of the infamous Moses Strong, Caffee's defense attorney and a colorful member of the Wisconsin Territorial legislature well known for his remarkable ability to harangue a jury. Glimpses of Wisconsin-style frontier justice and the seeds of suffrage are liberally sprinkled throughout the story.
The play, which invites lively audience participation, was written by award winning author, Paula Dáil and is being directed by Edgewood College Theater Professor Emerita Jewell Fitzgerald.
