Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde

By Moisés Kaufman

Directed by Steve Noll

London: 1895: Oscar Wilde was the toast of Victorian high society. His plays and writings were scandalous, outrageous, daring and incredibly popular. His fame was immense. His fortunes: huge. So much that he believed his openly gay relationship with the son of a famous politician couldn't be touched. Some historians have called Wilde the "first gay man" for being so brash. But the laws of the times were clear: Gross Indecency (as his sexual orientation was then termed) was a felony. And it would take three trials for the simple truth to be heard. "The truth is rarely pure, and never simple."
