GODSPELL

By Steven Schwartz

Directed by Ryan Klug

Prepare ye for the timeless tale of friendship, loyalty and love based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew.

Godspell was the first major musical theatre offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner, Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Children of Eden), and it took the world by storm. Led by the international hit, "Day by Day," Godspell features a parade of beloved songs, including "Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord," "Learn Your Lessons Well," "All for the Best," "All Good Gifts," "Turn Back, O Man" and "By My Side."

A small group of people help Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and hefty doses of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed as the story of Jesus' life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, Jesus' messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life.

Auditions

Auditions will be held on the following days:

8/21/2016
8/22/2016

"The director is looking to build a community of dynamic performers, ranging in ages from high school up to village elder."

Please arrive at the beginning of auditions at 6:00 pm and plan to stay for the entire night. (You will not need to come both nights)

We will be teaching you the music from the show, but I cannot express enough that it would be in the best interest of everyone auditioning to be familiar with the music from the original production--we will not be using the 2012 revival version.

There are traditionally 10 roles, but we might expand it to 13 - 15 people, if we can ensure that the ensemble will work together well. All roles are open.

I will have copies of the album at BDACT and the Library for checkout (and return.

Rehearsals will be Sunday night through Thursday nights from 6:30 - 9:30, until we get closer to the show when rehearsals may increase.

Please bring clothes in which to dance, and your conflict calendar. As "Godspell" is a show that focuses on Community, rehearsal time as a group will be a central focus.

If you have any questions, please contact director Ryan Madala-Klug at ryantmk@icloud.com, or by phone at 920-698-6414.

He possesses the attributes of two Biblical figures: he is both Jesus' lieutenant and most ardent disciple, and also the doubter who begins to question and rebel. Like Jesus, he is also charismatic, but in an overt revolutionary way. Handsome and masculine.
