Gadzooks! Cinderella! (It Ain't Shakespeare!)
By Nick Schweitzer
Directed by Stephen F. Murray
A Shakespearean troupe has to perform a British holiday panto to make money. (Don't know what a "panto" is? Google it!) As they present the recognizable characters and story of the fairy tale, they try to slip in some of the Bard's most familiar lines and soliloquies – only to be reminded:"this ain't Shakespeare!" Cross-dressing is an essential part of the panto tradition (think Monty Python, not La Cage aux Folles) with at least one lead female character played by a man. Cheering for the heroes and booing for the baddies is strongly encouraged in this family-friendly treat, a charming alternative to traditional holiday fare.
