Escanaba in Love

By Jeff Daniels

Directed by James Gallagher

This hilarious prequel to “Escanaba in da Moonlight”, set in the Soady deer camp during World War II, follows the high-spirited, yet lovable, Soady family in one cockamamie escapade after another. It’s deer hunting season, and 18-year-old Albert Soady, Jr. is determined to make the most of it before he ships out to be a sharpshooter in the U.S. Army. However, Albert’s plans go awry when he falls madly in love with Big Betty Balou. But is she the right fit to be a part of Escanaba’s “royal” family? “... Full of zany characters and raw small town humor that is sure to please casual theatre goers. This is a wacky, well timed and very funny show." - Tom Williams, Chicago Critic

Auditions

Auditions will be held on the following days:

12/5/2016
12/6/2016

Those auditioning will be asked to do a cold reading(s) from the script. While it is not required, the option to present a 1-2 minute, comedic monologue is available for those interested in doing so. If a resume and/or head shot are available, please bring a copy/copies to the audition OR email them to heather@memoriesballroom.com. Please do not be concerned if you have neither of these items; Memories’ producers and directors still want to see you! It is requested that those auditioning, come prepared with their rehearsal availability and any known conflicts during the 6-8 weeks prior to the opening of the show(s) they are auditioning for. The rehearsal schedule will be developed based upon the availability of the chosen cast. Those wishing to be cast MUST be available for all performances. Synopses of each of the shows, as well as a listing of characters being cast, are listed below. Memories strongly encourages all interested actors and actresses to audition, regardless of the age and physical descriptions of the characters, as flexibility within casting is always an option. If there are any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact Memories at 262-284-6850 or via email to heather@memoriesballroom.com. For additional information about Memories, you can visit them online at www.memoriesballroom.com . It is customary that Memories provides an actor travel stipend.
Alphonse Soady – (male, 60s-70s) The patriarch of the Soady clan, he built the Soady deer camp after WWI. A crusty, set-in-his-ways ‘old fart’, who knows EXACTLY how kids should be brought up, and how a deer camp should be run.
Albert Soady, Sr. – (male, 40s-50s) Young Albert’s father. More than ready to take the reins of the deer camp from Alphonse.
Albert Soady, Jr. – (male, late teens-early 20s) 18-year-old Albert Jr is an experienced hunter, but somewhat naive in the ways of the world. Just passed his physical, and set to go off to WWII in a few days.
“Salty” Jim Negamanee – (male, 30s-40s) An odd duck, very much in the form of ‘Jimmer’ from Escanaba in da Moonlight. Had an accident at sea, and is not quite ‘all there.’
Big Betty Balou – (female, 20s) Tough as nails, able to drink and cuss with the best of them. An outdoorsman’s ideal, with a persona as big as the outdoors. While she can (and does) do just about everything a man can, she has her delicate side as well.
