Dancing at Lughnasa

By Brian Friel

Directed by Patricia Boyette

University Theatre opens our season with Brian Friel’s Dancing at Lughnasa. This Tony- and Olivier-Award-winning memory play chronicles a brief period in the lives of the five Mundy sisters, a close-knit group of women living in rural Ireland in the 1930s. In two days over the preparation for the harvest festival, their lives begin to unravel and small moments of joy become even more poignant. Through the journeys of Kate, Rose, Maggie, Agnes, and Christina, audiences are given the painful reminder to dance “with eyes half closed…to open them would break the spell.”
