Cats, the phenomenal musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber is being performed by Monona Grove High School musical theater department. Under the musical direction of Lori Nahirniak, stage direction by Taras Nahirniak, and choreography by Cheryl Swift.

Cats is a musical in two acts about a tribe of Cats who gather once a year to choose a member of the tribe to be reincarnated. The musical showcases characters from all walks of life who are metaphors of characters from different parts of society. Their stories are told through the poetry of T.S. Eliot and relationships are presented through choreography. It is ".. among the most exhilarating and innovative musicals ever staged..."

Cats has been translated into ten languages:
• Japanese
• German (three versions for Germany , Austria and Switzerland )
• Hungarian
• Norwegian
• Finnish
• Dutch
• Swedish (bilingual cast who performed in German and English on alternate nights)
• French
• Spanish (two versions for Mexico and Argentina)
• Italian

The awards that Cats has won include:
• 1981 Laurence Olivier award for Musical of the Year
• Evening Standard award for Best Musical
• Seven 1982/83 Tony awards including Best Musical
• The much-coveted Moliθre Prize for Best Musical in France
• Seven out of ten Dora Mavor Moore awards including Best Musical in Canada and seven awards in Japan.
