Benjamin Franklin & Baron von Steuben vs. The Paine County School Board

By Danielle Dresden

Directed by Stephen Murray

The American Revolutionary war hero, Baron von Steuben, is widely credited by historians with transforming the Continental Army into a fighting force capable of defeating the British. In contemporary times, he is also widely acknowledged as a gay man. When a Social Studies teacher in the fictitious Paine County school system starts teaching this information, at the same time as a conservative school board member seeks to change the District’s history textbooks, the stage is set for dramatic conflict
