Directed by Meenakshi Ganesan - Kallanjali School of Dance and Lisa Thurrell & Robert Cleary - Kanopy Dance Company

For the first time in Madison, "East meets West" in dance. The Kalaanjali School of Dance and the Kanopy Dance Company Present Balance of the Wheel, a 90 minutes presentation full of rhythm, footwork, co-ordination, modern contemporary choreography and emotional stories full of expressions depicting powerful stories from the Indian mythology.

Illuminating the circle of creation, destruction and protection as personified in Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu in Hindu mythology. Kanopy's season opener marries the best of Eastern and Western dance traditions, exploring the beauty of Bharatanatyam, India's classical dance form, and Western modern dance. You will see both dance forms performed separately and then blending together to a mix of rhythms, movement, symbols, group choreography and images. The collaborative performance will feature powerful music that has been specially created by local composer Barbara Chusid, vibrant costumes, and melodious and emotionally moving traditional Classical music from India.
