Milwaukee Public Theater

We believe in theatre’s potential to inspire, entertain, educate and empower. Our purpose is to be as accessible as the public library or public radio. We tour wherever people gather, often performing free to the public or at very low cost. We aim to be as diverse as our audience, so our company and content reflect that diversity. We want to be as imaginative as Nature herself—so our style is vivid, colorful, active and interactive—inviting our audiences to enter into the process of creation.

For the past 34 years Milwaukee Public Theatre has brought the gifts of art, music, theatre, storytelling and dance to hundreds of thousands of people of all ages, cultures and abilities in our community. Most of this work has been free-to-the-public!

In fact, if you add it all up, Milwaukee Public Theatre has provided:
• over one million people with access to the arts
• over 500,000 dance steps
• over 20,000 hours of workshops with inner city youth
• over 10,000 seniors with laughter and inspiration
• over 1,000 artists with meaningful work
• over 500 youth with internships in the arts
• over 100 original theatreworks about life in our community

Milwaukee Public Theatre is an Associate Member of the United Performing Arts Fund and receives support from the the Milwaukee Arts Board, Milwaukee County CAMPAC, the Wisconsin Arts Board, the Faye McBeath Foundation, the Helen Bader Foundation, the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, the Non-profit Management Fund, the Donald and Barbara Abert Fund, the Gardner Foundation, Greater Milwaukee Association of Realtors Youth Foundation, Merrill Lynch, MillerCoors Brewing, and many other businesses, families and individuals.
