Madison Contra Dance |
Generally, contra dances are held each Saturday, with the first Saturday of the month hosted by Folklore Village, the second by Last Gaspé, the third by Wild Hog, and the fourth by Fourth Saturday. Scandinavian dancing is generally the second Fridays.
Dates and places may be changed. Call the dance organizers for confirmation. Look in the newspaper The Isthmus which is distributed on Thursdays for more information. Dances are listed under "Dancing", not "Dance." Also check the Rhythm Calendar of the Madison daily newspapers for occasional additional listings.
Most dances begin at 8:00 pm and have an admission charge. Dances are taught, partners are not required, and no experience is necessary. If you are new to contra dancing, show up early for the easier dances and for occasional instruction.
Dances are also held every Tuesday night (7:30-10:00 pm, dancing usually begins promptly at 8 pm and ends around 9:30) at the Grace Episcopal Church, 116 W. Washington, Madison, WI. Be part of the calling, music, organization, and dancing! Donation $4-6. Join the co-op, $30 for 10 weeks. Call Bill (608-446-4446).
